Wayanad in Google Trends: Rising Death Toll from Landslides Sparks Panic
In Kerala's Wayanad district, the death toll from recent landslides continues to rise. As rescue operations progress and debris is cleared, the number of fatalities grows, causing widespread fear and anxiety among locals. Many are distraught, unable to locate their family members and relatives. Distressingly, some trapped individuals are making desperate phone calls for help. In response, the army and air force have joined rescue efforts, intensifying operations in Wayanad. Amid this crisis, Wayanad has become a trending topic on Google.
The villages of Meppadi, Mandakai, and Churamal in Wayanad, usually known for their scenic beauty, have now turned into sites of devastation. Heavy rains on Monday night and early Tuesday morning triggered landslides. The downpour, lasting several hours, led to landslides that severely affected the villages of Attamala, Noolpuja, Mandakai, and Meppadi. The landslides buried homes under rocks,
mud, and debris, wiping out these villages. Roads, bridges, and houses were destroyed, and the area is now covered in mud, presenting a grim scene. So far, over 60 people have died, and nearly 100 are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Adding to the panic, the whereabouts of another 250 people remain unknown. It is unclear whether they are trapped under the mud or have been swept away by floodwaters. Local authorities state that the full extent of the situation will only be known once rescue operations are complete.
Meanwhile, Kerala’s disaster teams, along with the NDRF, Indian Army, and Air Force, are conducting rescue operations. With two fighter jets and helicopters, around 250 soldiers are involved in the rescue mission. However, ongoing rain in the Wayanad region is hampering these efforts. Both the central and state governments are closely monitoring the situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of all necessary assistance.
Wayanad in Google Trends: The catastrophic landslides that buried entire villages and caused significant loss of life have made Wayanad a trending topic on Google.
