Congresswoman Criticizes Secret Service Director Over Trump Rally Incident

During a House Oversight Committee hearing on Monday, US Congresswoman Nancy Mace criticized Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle over the assassination attempt on former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Mace questioned Cheatle in a series of yes-or-no questions, highlighting the pressure on Cheatle from both Republican and Democratic parties to resign. Mace accused Cheatle of being "dishonest" regarding the security lapses during Trump's Pennsylvania rally on July 13, where the attack occurred.

Cheatle admitted during the hearing that the attack was a "colossal failure" and "preventable." Mace further questioned how Cheatle's opening statement for the hearing leaked to the media beforehand, to which Cheatle responded that she had "no idea."

Mace expressed her frustration, calling Cheatle's response "bulls***" and accusing her of dishonesty. The Congresswoman pressed Cheatle on whether the Secret Service had been transparent and responsive to the committee's demands regarding the incident, to which Cheatle repeatedly responded that she would "have to get back" to Mace.

In response, Mace accused Cheatle of being "full of s***" and moved a privileged motion to impeach the Secret Service director, compelling the House leadership to act on the resolution within two legislative days. Mace announced this motion on Twitter, sharing a video of her action during the hearing.

The shooting at the rally has led to significant scrutiny of the Secret Service, particularly Cheatle, with lawmakers questioning how a gunman could get so close to a former President and current presidential nominee. Despite bipartisan calls for her resignation from House Oversight Committee's Republican chair James Comer and top Democrat Jamie Raskin, Cheatle has refused to step down.
